Ongoing work at Northwood
The Duffy’s Cut crew is currently working at Northwood cemetery, a collateral site from 1832 in Downingtown, Chester County. One of the men from Duffy’s Cut (P&C mile 57) ran west to another Irish railroader crew at Downingtown (mile 48) and infected that crew with cholera and they all died as well. They were dragged uphill from the railroad line and buried in a potter’s field that later became Northwood Cemetery. After five years of exploration we located the second Irish Chester County railroader mass grave last May.
